Warm and mostly sunny this evening, albeit with rather hazy skies possible. Mostly clear skies overnight but low cloud may develop in places later. Freshening easterly winds in some coastal areas later. Remaining mild and rather warm in places. Minimum temperature 16 °C.

Saturday:

Any early morning cloud gradually clearing to leave a generally sunny day. Easterly winds freshening with locally strong and gusty winds in parts of Devon and Cornwall. Feeling very warm. Maximum temperature 29 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Breezy with plenty of strong sunshine on Sunday. Often dry early next week too but showers or thunderstorms are possible, mainly on Monday. Blustery at times but often very warm.

High pressure is expected to drift to the northwest at the start of this period. This will allow a north to northeasterly airstream to affect much of the UK, leading to rather cool conditions in some northern and eastern areas. As a vigorous area of low pressure emerges into the North Atlantic by the following weekend, connected to what is currently Tropical Storm Erin, high pressure may re-build across the UK for a time, bringing widely fine and dry conditions and for some, an increase in temperatures, relative to the previous few days. The final week of August may see Atlantic weather systems progress over the UK, with a small chance of widely wetter and windier weather developing, though there is much uncertainty in this aspect of the forecast.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely, and with this comes the potential for stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a rather more slowly evolving weather pattern is less clear. Temperatures are likely be near to above average overall.
