A fine and dry day with plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures. During the afternoon some low cloud and mist may form along the English channel, affecting the coast. Maximum temperature 30 °C.

Tonight:

Low cloud spreading inland during the evening, with a continuing risk of mist along the coast and also hill fog. Staying dry with light winds overnight. Minimum temperature 16 °C.

Saturday:

Any low cloud, mist or hill fog clearing through the morning, though it may linger along the coast into the afternoon. Generally fine and dry with good spells of sunshine. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Generally warm, settled and dry, though rather cloudy, especially along the coast. Low cloud spreading inland during the night, but developing breaks by day. Best of the sunshine likely inland.

High pressure is expected to drift to the northwest at the start of this period. This will allow a north to northeasterly airstream to affect much of the UK, leading to rather cool conditions in some northern and eastern areas. As a vigorous area of low pressure emerges into the North Atlantic by the following weekend, connected to what is currently Tropical Storm Erin, high pressure may re-build across the UK for a time, bringing widely fine and dry conditions and for some, an increase in temperatures, relative to the previous few days. The final week of August may see Atlantic weather systems progress over the UK, with a small chance of widely wetter and windier weather developing, though there is much uncertainty in this aspect of the forecast.

Details during this time frame also carry low confidence. Overall, unsettled conditions with showers or longer spells of rain are expected to be most prevalent. Some heavy and thundery rain is possible at times with a risk of strong winds. Interspersed with this are likely to be some transient periods of drier and more settled weather. Temperatures are expected to be above normal with a chance of some hot spells, especially at first in the south.
