A bright start in the south and west, but cloudier elsewhere. Warm sunny spells developing for most by the afternoon although coastal areas could remain cloudy. Near average temperatures close to coasts, warmer inland. Light or gentle winds. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Tonight:

Areas of cloud likely to spread inland from the North Sea overnight, perhaps thick enough in one or two places for a spot of drizzle. Light or gentle winds. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

Monday:

A rather cloudy start but gradually turning brighter inland, the best of developing sunny spells in the south and west. Coastal areas could remain cloudy and cooler throughout. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Mainly dry conditions expected with cloudy mornings gradually giving way to brighter afternoons, particularly inland. Coastal areas however, could stay largely cloudy and occasionally breezy. Temperatures close to average.

High pressure is likely to be the dominant feature at first, initially centred near to Iceland, allowing a north to northeasterly airstream to affect much of the UK, leading to rather cool conditions. High pressure is likely to progress SE across the UK for a time, bringing widely fine and dry conditions and for some, an increase in temperatures, relative to the previous few days. Whilst this is happening a deep area of low pressure is likely to develop in the North Atlantic, linked to Tropical Storm Erin. The final week of August may see Atlantic weather systems progress over the UK, especially in the north and west, with a small chance of widely wetter and windier weather developing. The evolution of this is highly uncertain though.

Confidence in the details through this period is low. However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely, and with this comes the potential for stronger winds at times as well. Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a rather more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear. Temperatures are likely be near to above average overall.
